Hi friends, I am Urvashi Goyani and I will be talking to you about Eating the Rainbow. Friends when was the last time you saw the color of the food on your plate? well when it comes to eating colorful foods it’s best when they are eaten in the season as the nutrient availability is the highest and it has the highest concentration as well. so let’s talk about the importance of these colors.
Color Red. Now Red color foods are really high in lycopene carotenoid. they are anti-inflammatory and they have antioxidants which decreases your LDL which is your bad cholesterol and increase HDL which is a good cholesterol. and they protect against cancer as well. so you can go for fruits like watermelon slices, your tomatoes, you can pick up from your strawberries, your Cranberries, cherries all these are superfoods for red colour. coming on to color blue and purple. friends do you find yourself forgetting a lot of things? Well, blue and purple color foods are the ultimate brain foods. As they enhance the memory and cognition. they also lower blood pressure and they have anti-aging properties and they promote longevity. the anthocyanin compounds in them which gives these foods their color are really heart healthy compounds. so your go-to foods can be anything from your prunes, plums, eggplant, your black grapes many fruits which have purple colour like your purple Yam etc.
colour green : green colour foods are really rich in vitamin K as they regulate the normal blood clotting. they are also good in vitamin A and Calcium. The isothiocyanates present in them acts on the liver and protect against cancer. Asparagus promotes healthy bladder and thus protects against urinary tract infections so here again your go-to foods can be anything from floret Greens to spinach to your fenugreek leaves your herbs like as cilantro, parsley, even for that matter you are green fruits Green kiwis, Green Apples, green grapes are all superfoods again.
Yellow and Orange foods. Well, who doesn’t like a natural glow and clear complexion? well the compounds present in these yellow and orange foods are beta-carotene and carotenoids which promote good eye health. so you can pick up lemon, pineapple, oranges, papaya, corn. turmeric for that matter these also fortify your bones and teeth as they have excellent Vitamin C, potassium and Folic acid.
color white : yes white is a correct too friends you can be pick up from vegetables like cauliflower, your onions, mushrooms, potatoes. though potatoes are rich in carbohydrates they are packed with potassium and magnesium. mushrooms are rich in protein.so rather than saying that fruits and vegetables fight diseases, I will say their absence is what causes diseases.so start including Rainbow on your plate friends. thank you
